Sim Only

'Sim only' contracts can be a great way of getting more bang(well minutes and/or texts) for your buck. The idea is simple. Unlike a regular contract where you not only pay for an allocation of air time, but also pay for a handset, with a 'sim only' contract you only pay line rental towards your allocation of minutes/text. You won't get a handset included but this kind of contract does have it's upsides.

For instance, if you like your current handset it would be pointless getting 'an upgrade' for a handset that you simply don't want. Switching to a 'sim only' contract will allow you to keep your phone and pocket the money that would otherwise be spent on the handset throughout the course of the contract. Also many of the mobile operators allow you to take out a 30 day rolling contract, which means you are not tied in and can cancel at any time!

Normally the more expensive handsets will only be available(especially if you do not want to pay extra for the handset) on more expensive tariffs. With a 'sim only' contract you can put the tariff and handset you want together.
